Lindsay Lohan Gets 90 Days in Jail!!

Well not a bit of a shocker to me but it is the buzz around the entertainment world right now that fallen Actress and former Disney star Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail due to a violation of a drug charge back in 2007. She has now until July 20th to turn herself in to start her sentence. Once those 90 days are done she must complete another 90 days in a rehabilitation center. You can watch Lindsay’s plea and the judge’s sentencing after the jump

My Two Cents: Ok yeah I know some want to say it’s only 90 days big deal but I’m sure when you tell that to the people who actually have to do the 90 days it can feel like forever and I’m sure the same for the criminals who only do a few weeks. But I want to comment on how it’s so weird to see this all happening. I remember when I first saw Lindsey in the remake of the Disney film “The Parent Trap” and  from her first full feature film you could really tell that this was a girl who could really act. She had that spark  that separated her from a lot of other child actresses during that time and with the guiding hands of Disney she of course was becoming America’s sweetheart. As Lindsey began into her later teen years it all went downhill from there. She broke off with Disney (as Disney tends to do when their stars reach 18) and started doing more grown up films such as the popular film “Mean Girls“. But soon after that came the drugs, the partying, the DUI’s, the greedy parents, & leeching friends. Fame consumed Lindsey and she of course herself took it for granted and now we have the end result….a jail sentence. I feel this is needed for her. Tough love is sometimes the best love and maybe once she spends a bit of time behind some  prison bars maybe she can come back and take control of her career and become the true actress that she is meant to be. I would really hate to see a talent like that go to waste. Good luck Miss Lohan.

Prince:The Internet Is Over!

Iconic singer Prince spoke to a European newspaper on how he feels about the internet was he was pretty blunt about it. Check out what the “Purple Rain” singer had to say:

“The Internet is completely over,” Prince told the Daily Mirror. “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”

He also had this to say when comparing the internet to music channel MTV

The Internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated.”

My Two Cents:Prince is never one to shy away from telling how he feels and he has spoken. Why I myself don’t think the internet is going anywhere anytime soon that statement about MTV has become somewhat true. Looking through MTV’s television lineup we see nothing but reality show after reality show and no music programs what so ever. MTV cancelled their popular music video countdown TRL back in 2008 and since then nothing has come along to take it’s place. With endless access to artist and their music  through the internet from websites such as Youtube and Vevo maybe MTV got the hint they really aren’t needed anymore. What do you think?

J-LO On The Diddy Relationship:It Did Get Sordid

Just in case you missed it Jennifer Lopez‘s Behind The Music aired this past weekend and while it was a very interesting watch she had a couple of good quotes when referring to her relationship with Rapper/Producer Sean Combs aka Diddy. Check this out

“He was like, ‘I love you’. Right away. It was very fast, but we did have a connection. We did fall in love and we were very close. But my relationship with him was always something I knew would end.”
“It started out as something very pure and innocent. But it did get ugly – it did get sordid.”

Just in case folks don’t know what “sordid” mean here is Webster’s Definition:

1 : marked by baseness or grossness : vile <sordid motives>
2 a : dirty, filthy b : wretched, squalid

If you missed this episode check it out here. Very interesting watch.

Tyler Perry Speaks on Boondocks Episode

Producer/Actor Tyler Perry finally unsealed his lips about the rumors going around that he  fired his entire staff and suing the creator of the animated program “The Boondocks” because of the episode that aired recently that was a supposed parody of him and his life. Perry spoke with Straight From The A at the Essence Music Festival this past weekend to clear those rumors and had this to say:

Just like the Spike Lee situation, I feel that “no response” is the best response. I’m just gonna leave it at that…But I will tell you this… there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I’m suing The Boondocks. Those are all lies. I’m not suing anybody over that. And I haven’t fired anyone because of that show either. I don’t know where all that came from.

My Two Cents: There you have it folks and now I believe it’s time to press on. It’s always best to get it straight from the horse’s mouth instead of from the grapevine.

THE 2010 BET AWARDS REVIEW

T.I.:I’m Not Gonna Be Rapping at 40

ATL Rapper T.I. spoke with CNN in regards to where he would like to be when he reaches the age of 40. Guess what the rap game is not one of the places:

“I’m not going to be the 40-year-old rapper. I would not. That’s Jay. He’s doing it very well. Hats off, but I just don’t see that for me. If I had the option to [be] Jay-Z [or] Will Smith, I think I’d go with Will. I’m a Jay-Z fan. I have a lot of admiration and respect for Jay and his legacy. But I feel like Will, he gets to spend more time with his family. He gets to be home more and actually raise his kids. I feel like he has more of a home life…and the money don’t hurt. Twenty million dollars a flick ain’t bad.”

My Two Cents: I agree with T.I. 100% on this. If I had the money that either T.I. Jay-Z or Will Smith has by the time I’m 40 why still work? These 3 who of course have left their stamp on the entertainment world could retire today and live comfortably for the rest of their lives without worry but when you love and have a passion for what you do why put a limit age on when you will stop. In this case I’m sure money is not the reason why Jay-Z continues to press on. It’s the passion.

The Dream:This Is Ciara’s Last Chance….

In a recent interview with Parlour Magazine hit producer The Dream gave his two cents about the future of pop star Ciara’s career. When asked does he think this is Ciara’s last shot at pop The Dream had this to say

I think so. You only get so many times to, and I won’t say fail, but not achieve. There’s an expectation of where Ciara should be in her career. To others, she’s achieved but not to us, because we saw where her career was headed. But now she’s back on the horse. When she first came out I, like Lil Jon and Jazee Pha, understood exactly who she was. It was that whole Atlanta vibe because if i’m not Atlanta, no one is. I knew if I had a chance to get with her creatively, there’s a specific type of swagger that she’s got. Tricky and I did her whole album, but it’s not all shallow songs like “Ride.” There’s play time but there’s substance too, it’s a great listen.

My Two Cents:Wow is really all I can say but hey The Dream spoke what he thought was true. I think however people love to put limits on artist just because they may have hit a bump in the rode. Of course numbers do not lie when looking at what Ciara’s last effort “Fantasy Ride” brought in. The mess that was the promotion and as well almost the whole album being leaked. No one can predict the future as of how well her new album “Basic Instinct” is gonna sell nor can we predict if it doesn’t do well will that be the final  nail in the coffin for the rest of her career. It’s very hard to tell especially with the fickleness of the U.S. music buying public. I’ll be honest in saying if your name isn’t Rihanna, Lady Gaga, or Beyonce your gonna have a bit of a struggle to please the fickle US market. Ciara’s plan of attack this go around should definitely be HEAVY PROMO if her label wants this album to be big international successes such as her previous records “Goodies” & “The Evolution”.

Is Brandy Signing With Def Jam?

Word around the net is that R&B veteran Brandy is in talks to ink a deal with record label Island Def Jam. Back in 2009 Brandy ended her contract with Epic Records after the release of her 5th album “Human” and is currently the star of her own reality show “A Family Business” which has been renewed for a second season. Island Def Jam is also the home of pop stars Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, and also the newly added Jennifer Lopez.

My Two Cents:I’m really not sure how all this is gonna turn out if Brandy gets with Def Jam. As we have seen the top priority artist on that label is Rihanna. She seems to get the biggest budget on her projects and then everyone else just gets what is leftover i.e. Mariah’s & Janet’s dismal promotional backings on their last albums even causing Janet to leave. All I can say is Brandy better be ready cause Rihanna gets first dibs on everything over there.

Kelly Rowland:Matthew Knowles is NOT a Destiny’s Child Member

Kelly Rowland let it be known in a interview with blogger Perez Hilton that a Destiny’s Child reunion could still happen in the future. She also said that it would NOT be up to Matthew Knowles whether it happens or not. Here is what Kelly said when Perez asked her about a recent statement made by Matthew about a DC reunion:

“Well Matthew Knowles is not a member of Destiny’s Child so with all due respect that’s not a decision he can make – that’s up to myself, Beyonce and Michelle.”

My Two Cents:Kelly really handled that question in a very classy way. While I myself don’t see a reunion from these three no time in the near future I’m just glad Kelly let it be known who is really in charge of this thing. Had Kelly still been under his thumb you never would have heard this out of her mouth so good job for keeping hopes up for the peeps who are still dying to get one more album out of the trio.

Alicia Keys Doesn’t Rely On Gimmicks

13x Grammy Winner Alicia Keys did an interview with well known fashion magazine “Elle” and had a interesting quote about the way she markets herself when releasing a new album.

“My look isn’t plotted out, like, I’m going to have red hair because it’s a new record. It has to be genuine, not a branding concept”.

My Two Cents:Now I actually sat and thought first before I jumped to a conclusion that this was Key’s taking a jab at certain other pop star who recently dyed her hair red *cough Rihanna cough*. Honestly lets be real now this interview was probably done a month ago way before we saw Rihanna with her new due. Ms. Keys I’m sure of said the first color that came to her mind when giving this interview. Had she said green would you think she was talking about Nicki Minaj? Anyway you get my drift here. I do have to agree with her though. Alicia is one of the very few successful pop acts who don’t have to rely on anything fancy or out of the ordinary to sell a record nor does she have to shock the world with outrages outfits just to get attention. So for me it’s a breath of fresh air when you get those artist that just let their music speak for themselves and not conform to whats “IN” to stay relevant. Kudos all around AK!!
